Events and trade fairs

COMPAMED is the world's leading trade fair for state-of-the-art medical technology with the motto “High-tech solutions for medical technology“. Here, exhibitors present the most important products and technology concepts for the future development of the industry. The focus lies on complex high-tech solutions in micro- and nanotechnology. COMPAMED serves as an important information and communication platform and offers participants a globally unique range of components, parts, services, digital technologies and much more.

MEDICA - the world's largest medical trade fair - is held in parallel to COMPAMED. The trade fair with six different main topics will be supplemented by a program consisting of forums, conferences and special shows as well as activities.

The Fraunhofer IST will also be exhibiting at COMPAMED as part of the High-Performance Center Medical and Pharmaceutical Engineering on the subject of “Plasma treatment during 3D printing of implants to improve acceptance“. For this purpose, a prototype of the 3D printer with built-in plasma source, as well as already printed and treated example exhibits will be shown at our booth.

Implants based on 3D-printed scaffolds are becoming increasingly important in regenerative medicine. To ensure that the human body cells also accept these implants, pretreatment with plasma can be helpful. At the Fraunhofer IST a plasma source has been successfully integrated into a 3D printer which can provide the surface of the scaffolds with the desired properties.
