HANNOVER MESSE is considered the most important industrial trade fair in the world. The Fraunhofer IST is participating in this year's Hannover Messe with the topic ”Thin-film sensor technology & AI: Prediction of product quality by means of temperature and pressure measurement directly on the tool surface” as part of the Fraunhofer Business Area Adaptronics.

This year, the Fraunhofer IST will again be participating in the joint Fraunhofer stand in Hall 2/Stand B24. As part of the Fraunhofer Business Area Adaptronics, we will be presenting the following topics:

Thin-film sensor technology and AI: Predicting product quality by measuring temperature and pressure directly on the tool surface

Resource and energy efficiency in production are of great importance for future developments towards a sustainable, digitalized industry. The wear-resistant thin-film sensors developed at the Fraunhofer IST enable precise process monitoring by measuring temperature and pressure directly on the tool surface. At the Hannover Messe, the Fraunhofer IST will be presenting a tool part equipped with thin-film sensors for high-resolution temperature measurement. This in-situ measurement technology for highly stressed areas can be used to optimize process parameters during injection moulding, for example, and the use of machine learning and AI can also be used to predict product conditions as part of virtual quality control.

Post processing technologies

Additive technologies offer a number of advantages over traditional, subtractive machining processes, but generally only deliver semi-finished products, as the surface quality of additively manufactured components is often inadequate or support structures have to be removed. The final added value is therefore created through post-processing. Depending on the material and the functional and quality requirements, various technologies are available for post-processing the component surface.

At Hannover Messe 2024, researchers from the Fraunhofer Group for Production will be using a joint exhibit in the form of an additively manufactured turtle to show which different post-processing methods can be used for additively manufactured components. Each part of the turtle represents one of a total of nine post-processing methods for plastic, metal or hybrid components.

The event ”Insight BAT^x – Einblicke in die Wertschöpfungskette Batterie” is dedicated to the topic of efficient value chains and nationwide networking. After the presentation of the battery recycling simulation game as an important instrument of the federal project TraWeBa for successful cooperation along the battery value chain, a panel discussion will take place on the topic of "Efficient value chains using battery recycling as an example". Our deputy institute director Prof. Dr. Sabrina Zellmer will also be taking part.
