Technical Conference / May 04, 2024 - May 09, 2024
67th Annual SVC Technical Conference
The SVC Technical Conference takes place for the 67th time this year and is an important meeting point for experts in the field of vacuum coating technologies. The content of the conference combines research and production and offers participants insights into the latest trends and developments.
TechCon is divided into a scientific program, where different technologies and applications are presented, and an educational program, which offers a wide range of tutorials and courses. Thus, participants benefit from a wide range of opportunities for information and education.
In addition there will be an exhibition on May 09 and 10 with many different exhibitors from the industry.
This year the Fraunhofer IST is again participating with several contributions to the scientific program of the conference as well as a booth at the technical exhibition (booth number 104). In the following we give you an overview of all the institute's participations:
Education Program
Saturday, May 4, 2024, 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM
- Dr. Ralf Bandorf, Prof. Arutium Ehiasarian
C-333 ”Practice and Applications of High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering”
Dr. Ralf Bandorf and Prof. Arutiun Ehiasarian, two of the pioneers of industrial HIPIMS research and development will share their knowledge on application oriented aspects of HIPIMS Technology.
The tutorial aims at process engineers as well as CTOs addressing after short introduction practical aspects of HIPIMS for direct application in industrial environment. From different operation modes of HIPIMS, available hardware for pulse generation and active biasing as well as diagnostic equipment will be introduced. Active monitoring and feedback control for reactive processes will presented and a compilation of solutions close to production or on industrial scale will be reported.
Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 9:30AM - 1:00PM
- Savva/Haubold/Dr. Martin Keunecke/Stein/Petzold
C-320 ”Diamond-Like Carbon Coatings – From Basics to Industrial Realization”
Dr. Christian Stein, Dr. Martin Keunecke (Fraunhofer IST) together with Lars Haubold (Fraunhofer USA) and Dr. George Savva (Ionbond) will share their knowhow on preparation, characterization and application of Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coatings. Different DLC coating designs and deposition technologies, pre- and post-treatments as well as their application to improve wear resistance (abrasive, adhesive, fatigue) and friction forces are presented. Industrial use cases like components for automotive, aerospace and general machine building and forming tools will be shown.
Wednesday, May 8, 2024, 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM
- Dr. Ralf Bandorf / Holger Gerdes
C-338 ”Application of Reactive Sputtering”
Dr. Ralf Bandorf and Dipl.-Phys. Holger Gerdes will share their know-how in reactive sputtering with an expertise in the field of vacuum and sputtering technology of more than 25 years and 15 years, respectively.
The tutorial introduces fundamental aspects of reactive sputtering, explaining the benefit of active monitoring and requirement of active feedback control. Both, experimental results and theoretic models will be shared. Available control and feedback approaches will be presented and challenges and benefits of each one discussed. Finally industrial solutions and most recent developments, including reactive HIPIMS are shown.
Thursday, May 9, 2024, 9:30 AM - 1:10 PM
- Dr. Dennis Barton
M-250 ”Deposition Process Simulation”
Dr. Dennis Barton will share his expertise presenting two decades development of kinetic simulation methods to describe low-pressure gas flows and plasma processes. Simulation approaches like Direct Monte Carlo (DSMC) and Particle-in-Cell Monte Carlo (PIC-MC) in combination with raytracing will be shown describing a holistic framework for "in silico" prediction of layer deposition processes.
