“PreCare” nominated for the “TECHNOLOGY4DEVELOPMENT” alumni award
Vote for the project you care about by October 31: How can health insurance billing be automated? How can agri-photovoltaics be used in three ways? How can health care be ensured even in the most remote areas of Africa? These are the questions to which the three projects nominated for the “TECHNOLOGY4DEVELOPMENT” alumni award provide answers. One of these projects is “PreCare - Health Care for Everyone and Everywhere”, in which the Fraunhofer IST and the Fraunhofer ISE, together with Stellenbosch University, have developed a mobile system for health care in remote rural areas of Africa.
“PreCare” as a mobile system for medical health care, monitoring of infectious diseases and initial care in disaster situations
In the “PreCare - Health Care for Everyone and Everywhere” project, the Fraunhofer IST and its project partners have developed a cost-effective platform that is mounted on pickups and equipped to perform pre-clinical examinations, tests and vaccinations independently of external infrastructure. This platform not only ensures basic medical care, but also enables the establishment of community health programs in remote rural areas. In addition, infectious diseases can be monitored and epidemics detected at an early stage. The “PreCare” can also provide valuable services in the provision of initial care in disaster areas. The project is funded by the Fraunhofer Future Foundation.
Fraunhofer spin-off “Smart Last Mile Solutions” offers technology from “PreCare” in South Africa
In order to offer the technology from the “PreCare” project locally in South Africa, employees of the Fraunhofer IST and ISE have founded the spin-off “Smart Last Mile Solutions” together with local partners. The founding members include, among others, IST employee Frank Neumann, who, as a team leader in the field of environmental technology, is a proven expert in CleanTech with diamond-based systems, as well as alumnus and former deputy institute director Dr. Lothar Schäfer.
