K 2022
Adhesion plays a essential role in additive-manufacturing processes . It influences the stability of the printed components, the print quality and the adhesive forces between different surfaces. Through the integration of atmospheric-pressure plasma technology into additive manufacturing, it is possible to influence the interfacial chemistry and, consequently, the adhesion on the treated surfaces. As a result, subsequent processes, such as painting or bonding, can be optimized and different materials, e.g. composites and metals, can be better combined with one another. Furthermore, it also opens up new areas of application that require specific surface chemistry, for example in the field of medical implants. Applications range from the automotive industry, through the aerospace sector, and on to medical technology.
With the key topics of “Circular Economy“, “Digitalization“ and “Climate Protection“, the 22nd K will be held in Düsseldorf this year. K is the world's largest trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry. The range of exhibits at K 2022 includes machinery and equipment, raw materials and auxiliaries, as well as semi-finished products, technical parts and reinforced plastic products. The fair will be complemented by a special show with the motto “Plastics shape the future“ and a Science Campus. This makes the trade fair the industry's most important information and business platform, providing visitors with orientation and important economic impulses. The physical event is enhanced by digital features.
The Fraunhofer IST is participating together with other Fraunhofer Institutes in a joint booth of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. Using a demonstrator, we present topics such as interfacial chemistry, adhesion optimization and control and additive manufacturing in combination with plasma technology and demonstrate how automated, robot-controlled plasma sources can be used for cleaning or disinfection and coating as well as for functionalization.
