"Fraunhofer Photonica" Summer School
"Fraunhofer Photonica" Summer School enters its second round
After last year’s success, the "Fraunhofer Photonica" summer school will again take place in September 2024. Five Fraunhofer research institutes are once again opening their doors to the world of photonics. Starting on September 15 and ending on September 21, 2024, the summer school will provide many insights into the research focuses of the different Fraunhofer institutes to up to 20 young researchers.
Who can apply?
Are you a master’s student studying a suitable discipline, about to complete your bachelor’s degree or have you recently completed your master’s degree? Then we invite you to apply for the summer school. Primarily, the focus is on students who are currently not working and have not worked for one of the Fraunhofer ”Light and Surfaces” institutes yet. If you have any questions, please contact us.
The application deadline is May 15, 2024 at 5 pm.
You can find the link to the application portal right here – we are looking forward to receiving your application!
Meet the leading research institutes for photonics
Photonics and photonic technologies form the basis of our modern society in many ways and are responsible for innovation in many fields of science, ranging from optical communication, lighting, displays and imaging to production technologies, life science, health and environmental science. The participants of the summer school will experience current topics in photonics research in four german cities and at five leading research institutes. Besides, they will be able to exchange ideas and network with our experts as well as with other young scientists. The summer school will also give insights into career opportunities at the Fraunhofer institutes.
The summer school will focus on the following topics:
- Laser-based light sources
- Light and plasma as a tool for manufacturing
- Photonic quantum technologies
- Green Photonics
The journey: five Fraunhofer research institutes in four cities
This year’s summer school will start in Braunschweig where the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST is located. The next stop will be in Jena at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF. Dresden follows with two research institutes: Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS as well as Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP. Finally, the summer school ends in Berlin at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut HHI.
