Salon der Wissenschaft
The “Salon der Wissenschatft” (engl. Salon of Science) is entering the next round: this year, the format will once again take place in Braunschweig and offers the opportunity to promote the exchange between science and society and to make science tangible for all interested parties on site.
The event does not focus on traditional lectures, but instead places the emphasis on direct interpersonal exchange. In several parallel rounds, attendees will have the opportunity to discuss topics such as sustainability, climate protection, digitalization, healthcare, mobility, education and much more in person with researchers from the Braunschweig area. Those who do not actively participate in the discussions can join in via headphones and listen in.
In this way, research from the region can be discussed in a varied, personal and in-depth manner. In addition to information, the focus is on exchange and networking.
Once again this year, over 30 scientists from a wide range of research institutions in the Braunschweig region will be taking part in the Salon der Wissenschaft. The event is organized by the association ForschungRegion Brauschweig e.V. and the city of Braunschweig.
At this year's event, the Fraunhofer IST will be represented by Dr. Dennis Barton

Wozu Realität? – Die Grenzen der Digitalisierung in der Forschung
Dr. Dennis Barton
(engl. Why reality? - The limits of digitalization in research) Digital twins and simulation models are revolutionizing science and research. They accelerate the acquisition of knowledge and help to conserve resources - for example, by shortening the path to energy-efficient technology. But if more and more processes can be mapped virtually, the question arises: do we still need experiments in the real world at all?
